Several major upsets marked the opening round of competition of the Fiji Pro 2015, held in four-to-six-foot waves at Cloudbreak.

Kelly Slater was the first top seed to lose his Round 1 heat. The Floridian champion couldn’t stop Alejo Muniz from controlling the game when the Brazilian took the lead in the first ten minutes.

“We’ve been waiting for that heat for so many days. It feels amazing to surf in that heat and get the win. I know it’s only the first round, but it feels like a really big win for me because I’m here as a wildcard, and I don’t know when I’ll be back again.”
